Those who use the property of Turkish Cypriots on the Greek Cypriot side will be arrested
The Chairman of the Central Committee and Minister of Transport of Northern Cyprus, Erhan Arıklı, stated that "arrest warrants" will be issued—possibly even international warrants through Turkey—against those who use the property of Turkish Cypriots on the Greek Cypriot side, as a countermeasure to the arrests for seizure of Greek Cypriot property.
“One of the measures we will take will be to issue arrest warrants for those who use Turkish Cypriot property in the south of Cyprus, whether for renting or for permanent use,” Arıklı said.
Regarding the upcoming informal meeting at the end of July, Arıklı stated that following the recent arrests in Southern Cyprus, this informal conference “will be no different from a tourist trip, even losing the last remnants of hope.”
Erhan Arıklı also reported that the decision to open two new checkpoints was communicated to the Greek Cypriot side through the UN, but after these arrests, these checkpoints may no longer be necessary.
Even existing checkpoints may be reduced, since the end of sanctions is not far off. However, if sanctions intensify, people will be reluctant to cross the border to the south. For this reason, opening new checkpoints is pointless.
