Cyprus Experiences Record-Breaking Cold Temperatures
In recent days and nights, Cyprus has been hit by unusually cold weather, with temperatures plummeting below -5°C.
According to meteorologists, last night, the village of Chromo recorded a temperature as low as -5.2°C.
Sub-zero temperatures were also reported in several high-altitude regions across the island.
Here are the temperatures registered at various Meteorological Department stations last night:
• Troodos: -3.2°C
• Prodromos: -2.4°C
• Kyperounta: -0.9°C
• Eptagonia: -0.8°C
• Saitas: 0°C
• Avdimou: 1.1°C
• Malia: 1.3°C
• Xylophagou: 2.8°C
• Larnaca Airport: 2.9°C
• Achna: 3°C
• Polis Chrysochous: 5.6°C
• Paphos Airport: 6.5°C
Earlier, the Meteorological Service had warned that temperatures would continue to be low overnight.
Tonight, temperatures are expected to drop to around 2°C inland, 6°C along the coast, and -1°C in the mountainous areas, where frost will still be present.
On Saturday, there will be periods of increased cloud cover, while Sunday is expected to be mostly clear. The temperature is not expected to change significantly until Monday.
