Tourists in Cyprus: Israelis Spend the Most, Greeks Save
In May 2025, Cyprus earned €373.3 million from tourism, a 20.2% increase compared to May of the previous year, when the figure was €310.5 million. These figures were published by the Statistical Service of the Republic of Cyprus.
During the month, the island welcomed 479,160 tourists. Although the number of visitors remained stable, the authorities are focusing not so much on increasing tourist flow as on boosting individual spending. On average, tourists spent €96.18 per day, and with an average stay of eight days — around €779 per trip.
The highest daily spending was recorded among tourists from Israel — €153.11 per day. Their holidays typically lasted four days, with total spending reaching €627.74. Israelis made up 9.4% of all tourists, approximately 45,249 people.
Second place in terms of spending went to Swiss tourists, who spent €144.50 per day and stayed for an average of 6.4 days. Each Swiss visitor left about €924.80 on the island. In total, 7,249 Swiss tourists visited Cyprus in May.
Third place was taken by Dutch citizens, who spent an average of €126.12 per day. With a stay of 7.7 days, they spent around €971.15 in total. There were 8,078 Dutch tourists in May.
British tourists were once again the most numerous, accounting for 37.4% of all visitors — 179,150 people. Their daily spending averaged €97.77, and the total per trip was €948.39 over a 9.7-day holiday.
At the same time, the lowest spending was recorded among tourists from Greece. Their average daily spending was €60.19, totaling about €391.21 for a 6.5-day stay.
Swedish tourists also spent relatively modestly — €88.79 per day and €728.01 over 8.2 days. Polish tourists, who accounted for 7.7% of all visitors (36,800 people), spent €90.28 per day, with a total of €595.84 for a 6.6-day holiday.
Thus, Israelis and tourists from Central Europe lead in spending, while Greeks opt for a more budget-friendly vacation style.
