Turkey and Greece Among Top Three Countries with Cleanest Beaches
In 2024, over five thousand beaches and marinas worldwide were awarded certificates by the Foundation for Environmental Education. Spain, Greece, and Turkey emerged as leaders in receiving the most "Blue Flags."
According to the official Blue Flag website, Spain secured the top spot with 638 certified clean beach areas nationwide. The regions of Valencia (159) and Costa Blanca (89) boast the highest number of environmentally clean beaches. In Mallorca, only 20 beaches received this prestigious certification.
Greece ranked second in the ratings, with 596 quality-certified swimming spots and marinas, while Turkey completes the top three leaders with 567 awarded Blue Flags. Italy (457) and France (403) also made it into the top five.
Earlier reports highlighted Cyprus, where 76 beaches and two marinas—Limassol Marina and Ayia Napa Marina—were honored with the international quality label this year.
The municipality of Paralimni set a record with 18 beaches awarded the Blue Flag, showcasing their commitment to environmental standards.
The Blue Flag is an internationally recognized environmental standard that promotes the popularity, convenience of infrastructure, and cleanliness of beaches.
