Two abandoned suitcases arrived at Larnaca airport: they contained 43 kilograms of drugs
Almost 43 kilograms of drugs were found in two pieces of luggage at Larnaca airport. Two suitcases arrived in Cyprus without any escort.
Police in the Republic of Cyprus have published photographs of two unattended suitcases filled with a banned substance called "katin" (a drug derived from the evergreen khat tree).
According to reports, two pieces of luggage arrived at Larnaca airport from a foreign country on February 25 and no one picked them up. The drugs were found the day before while being returned to their country of origin.
Before sending the suitcases back to where they came from, customs officers inspected them.
Police spokesman Christos Andreou said this is the second time this drug has been detected in Cyprus.
The confiscated drugs were handed over to the Larnaca Provincial Drug Enforcement Agency (YCAN).
