18 Kilograms of Cannabis Seized at Larnaca Airport
Cyprus police have intercepted a package containing 18 kilograms of cannabis at Larnaca Airport, leading to the arrest of a 34-year-old man.
According to a police statement, the operation targeting illegal drugs smuggled into the country via postal shipments took place on May 19. This was a coordinated effort between the Anti-Narcotics Service (ANS) and the Customs Department.
During an inspection at the temporary storage facility in Larnaca Airport, officers discovered 30 sealed packages of cannabis plant material inside a parcel that had arrived on an international flight. The total weight was approximately 18 kilograms.
The following day, May 20, authorities arrested a 34-year-old man who had come to collect the package using a false identity.
A court-approved search of the suspect’s apartment in Larnaca uncovered various pieces of evidence, including documents and a paper box containing an additional 20 grams of cannabis.
The man remains in custody as the investigation continues. He faces charges related to the illegal importation and possession of narcotics with intent to distribute, as well as forgery and impersonation.
