Ukrainian Man Detained At Larnaca Airport In Connection With Brutal Assault In Limassol
Police detained a 22-year-old Ukrainian citizen upon his arrival at Larnaca Airport. He was wanted in connection with a fight that occurred in the early hours of January 1 at an establishment on Saripolou Street in Limassol.
According to investigators, at around 05:00 a 29-year-old man was at a nightclub celebrating New Year with friends. In the venue’s restroom, he encountered a man with whom he had already had a conflict several days earlier. After a verbal altercation, a scuffle broke out between them.
Later, when the individuals went outside, the suspect allegedly pulled a glass object from his jacket and struck the victim in the face with it.
The victim sustained serious injuries — a fracture of the frontal sinus, a skull base fracture, a broken nose, and heavy bleeding. He was hospitalized at a private clinic in Limassol.
The investigation established the identity of the alleged attacker — a Ukrainian citizen who had arrived in Cyprus on December 27, 2025, and left the island on January 2 via Larnaca Airport. After reviewing CCTV footage, the court issued a warrant for his arrest.
On February 13, the man arrived in Cyprus again and was detained at the airport. On Saturday, he was brought before the Limassol District Court, which authorized his detention for four days.
The investigation is ongoing. Police intend to question additional witnesses, conduct an identification procedure, and establish the whereabouts of three other individuals allegedly involved in the incident.
