Moldovan Fugitive Arrested at Paphos Airport After 7 Years on the Run
A 46-year-old Moldovan national who had been wanted for seven years was arrested upon arrival at Paphos Airport in Cyprus.
According to a statement from the police, the man was detained based on an international arrest warrant issued by Moldova in 2018. He is facing serious charges in his home country, including the illegal trafficking of narcotic and psychotropic substances.
The arrest took place during routine passport control, shortly after the suspect landed on a flight from another European country. Authorities discovered that he was listed on Interpol’s database of wanted persons.
The suspect is expected to appear before the District Court later today, where a ruling will be made on his detention ahead of extradition proceedings to Moldova.
