Over 800 Civil Weddings Celebrated in Akamas Last Year
In 2024, over 800 civil weddings were celebrated in the Akamas municipality, with the majority involving foreign nationals. The number of weddings is expected to increase even further in 2025. This information was shared by Cyprus Mail, citing Maria Yangou, an employee of the Civil Marriage Registration Service.
A total of 820 ceremonies were held in the Akamas nature reserve last year. Civil weddings contribute about 15% of the tourism revenue in this area.
The number of weddings is set to grow in the coming years, and bookings for ceremonies in 2026 will soon open. The majority of couples getting married in the municipality are from the UK, Poland, and Israel. The peak wedding season spans from March to November.
The popularity of civil weddings in Akamas can be attributed to its beautiful beaches and scenic mountain landscapes, as well as its secluded shores, such as those in Ayios Georgios, Coral Bay, Akamas, Peyia, and Kissonerga. Many couples also choose to hold their ceremonies in private villas, hotel rooms, gardens, and restaurants.
