A seriously injured driver, who was an illegal immigrant, arrested at Paphos hospital after an accident
A serious accident occurred in Paphos, in which a driver who had been in the country illegally for a long time was injured. The police arrested the violator right in the hospital.
According to the police, the accident happened late last night, around 23:30. The car, driven by a 53-year-old resident of Peyia, collided with the vehicle driven by a 44-year-old man under as yet unclear circumstances.
Both drivers were injured in the accident and were taken by ambulance to the general hospital of Paphos. Medical examination revealed that the 44-year-old man suffered multiple fractures, so he was transferred to the intensive care unit.
The 53-year-old man was not seriously injured, but doctors kept him under observation.
During further police investigation, it was found that the 44-year-old man had been illegally residing in the republic since October 7, 2022, as his asylum application had been rejected. The illegal immigrant was arrested in the hospital ward at 1:30 am on Tuesday.
The causes of the accident are being investigated.
