Cyprus Celebrates Mother’s Day by Honoring 250 Mothers of Large Families
This past Sunday, Cyprus marked Mother’s Day with a special event celebrating 250 mothers of large families.
The ceremony honored mothers who have five or more children, women whose four sons serve in the National Guard, as well as elderly mothers who raised four or more children or sent three or more sons to military service.
The event was attended by President Nikos Christodoulides and First Lady Philippa Karsera-Christodoulides, who herself is a mother of three daughters. During the ceremony, she was named honorary president of the Cyprus Association of Mothers of Large Families.
“At this moment, I stand with you to honor the Mother of Cyprus—the warrior mother, the mother who, despite becoming a refugee, carried her child in her arms and, with faith and a smile, rebuilt her life. I also honor those women who, though not biological mothers, open their arms to those in need,” said the First Lady in her speech.
Philippa Karsera-Christodoulides also expressed gratitude to the government, led by her husband, for its support of mothers in their everyday lives and for acknowledging their vital role in caring for children, students, the elderly, the sick, and people with disabilities.
“Cyprus is changing, and mothers are finally receiving the support and respect they truly deserve,” she added.
