Cat found with airgun pellet in its nose in Akhelia village, Cyprus
A seriously injured cat was found in the village of Akhelia in the Paphos district, with an airgun pellet discovered in its nose. The incident was reported by representatives of the Cyprus Greens — Citizens' Cooperation movement.
According to animal rights activists, similar cases of animal cruelty in the region are not a first. They emphasized that such actions constitute a criminal offense under Cypriot law.
Representatives of the movement demanded an immediate investigation, the identification and punishment of those responsible, as well as increased control and preventive measures by the authorities.
The coordinator of the animal protection group, Anthi Mouzouri, urged anyone with information about the incident to contact the relevant authorities.
Furthermore, activists reiterated the need to establish an independent "animal police" force dedicated exclusively to investigating cases of abuse and protecting animals on the island.
