Forest Fire Monitoring Center Planned for Villages in Limassol
A Forest Fire Monitoring Center is set to be established in villages across Limassol, following a year when the region experienced significant wildfire damage.
Local communities have applied for funding to install this monitoring system through the EU's rural development program.
The monitoring center will commence operations after the installation of specialized equipment and cameras in each village of Pachna, Apesia, Foini, Eptagonia, and Vouni. These cameras will scan the terrain in real-time, utilizing advanced artificial intelligence technology to detect fire outbreaks.
According to local residents, the Fire Watch system will be strategically positioned on elevated areas to oversee the landscape through a sophisticated monitoring unit for data collection.
Upon detecting a fire, the system will promptly alert the central monitoring center and firefighting services, thereby reducing response times and enhancing fire management capabilities.
