Smuggling Operation Uncovered in Nicosia Kindergarten
Cypriot police recently uncovered a large haul of smuggled tobacco products stored in a warehouse located on the grounds of a kindergarten.
The incident occurred in late January but has only been reported now, according to the police press office. Customs officers carried out the search at the warehouse in the Engomi area of Nicosia.
During the search, which was conducted in the presence of the warehouse owner, the following items were found and seized:
- 6 boxes, each containing 200 cigarettes
- 58 boxes of e-cigarettes
- 5.7 kg of rolling tobacco
- 250 g of hookah tobacco
The products lacked the required health warning labels in Greek and Turkish, along with security features and unique codes, indicating they were smuggled.
The warehouse owner was arrested but was later released after paying a €5,000 fine as part of an out-of-court settlement.
