Two Young Motorcyclists Killed in Separate Accidents in Cyprus
Two fatal accidents late last night in Lakatamia and Livadia claimed the lives of two young motorcyclists.
According to the police, the first crash occurred at around 10:30 PM in Livadia (Larnaca district). 16-year-old Christos Panagi lost control of his moped, crashing into the curb before colliding with a road sign.
Emergency responders rushed him to Larnaca General Hospital, but doctors could not save him.
Police found a helmet at the scene and are investigating whether he was wearing it at the time of the crash.
The second fatal accident happened a few hours earlier, at 7:10 PM in Lakatamia (Nicosia). 20-year-old Giorgos Theofanous was riding his motorcycle along Aegeou Street when he collided with a car driven by a 64-year-old man. The exact cause of the crash is still under investigation.
Both men were injured and taken to Nicosia General Hospital. Sadly, the motorcyclist did not survive. The driver of the car received medical treatment and was later discharged.
Police are urging anyone who witnessed the accident to contact the Nicosia Traffic Department or call the citizen hotline at 1460.
