Beach Cleanup Campaign Launched in Larnaca
The Larnaca Tourism Development and Promotion Company (ETAP) has launched a major beach cleanup initiative. The campaign was prompted by numerous complaints from tourists about litter on the city’s beaches.
The cleanup effort began in key areas including Pila, Finikoudes, the Medieval Castle, Kastella, the beach on T. Mitsopoulos Street, and Mackenzie, and will continue until early September.
The beaches in Oroklini were not included in the program, as the former public council had already arranged their cleanup under an existing contract.
ETAP is carrying out the campaign in collaboration with the Larnaca municipality and hotels in the Pila tourist area, with support from the Deputy Minister of Tourism. A team of specialists has been deployed to clean the sand on the main beaches of the region.
ETAP also emphasized its ongoing investments to enhance the appeal and amenities of the beaches. These include greening projects, the installation of outdoor exercise equipment and wooden playgrounds, and the development of sports facilities such as beach volleyball and beach soccer courts.
Specifically, a coastal gym park has been constructed on Kastella Beach, and renovations of pétanque and boules courts, popular among Scandinavian and French tourists, have begun in Finikoudes.
“These initiatives are aimed at improving the attractiveness of the beaches, which are crucial to Larnaca’s tourism experience, especially during the summer,” said ETAP.
