In Larnaca, six development projects worth over €50 million to launch in 2026

In Larnaca and the municipal districts of Livadia and Oroklini, six major development projects with a total value of over €50 million are planned to start in 2026. This was announced by the Mayor of Larnaca, Andreas Viras.

Sustainable Transport — the largest project

The largest project will be priority works under the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP), including the creation of bus lanes and bicycle paths. The project budget is estimated at approximately €20 million.

The project involves:

  • upgrading more than 15 key avenues and streets,
  • creating 30 km of bike lanes and 11 km of bus lanes,
  • reorganizing road sections,
  • introducing one-way traffic,
  • reducing the number of car lanes on main roads,
  • greening (creating “green axes”),
  • reconstructing road surfaces and sidewalks.

The project client is the Department of Public Works of Cyprus.

TEPAK Campus in the Mackenzie area

In 2026, construction is also expected to begin on the School of Maritime Sciences and Sustainable Development of TEPAK in Larnaca. The project cost is €13 million.

The educational complex will be located next to the parking area in Mackenzie and will include:

  • amphitheaters and classrooms,
  • conference halls,
  • offices for faculty and students,
  • specialized laboratories,
  • modern IT infrastructures and distance learning systems.

The total building area will be 4,960 sq. m.

Urban development projects in Livadia and Oroklini

In the Livadia district, reconstruction of Archbishop Makarios III Avenue will begin, costing €3.6 million. The project includes new paving for roads and sidewalks, greening, underground utility installation, upgrading water and stormwater networks, creating parking spaces, and installing lighting and urban equipment.

In Oroklini, the final phase of the historical center restoration and revitalization project will start, costing €2.4 million. The area will be transformed into a unified public space (Shared Space) accessible to all users, including people with disabilities.

Reconstruction of the Saint John district

The long-awaited Saint John parish renewal project in Larnaca will also start in 2026. Its cost is estimated at €2.3 million.

The works aim to:

  • improve the street network,
  • widen sidewalks,
  • create a central square,
  • update road markings,
  • enhance accessibility and greenery in the area.

Municipal services — in the old hospital building

Separately, the mayor noted that in 2026 the project to relocate Larnaca’s municipal services to the site of the old city hospital is expected to begin. The project budget is approximately €9 million.

It includes:

  • restoration and adaptation of existing buildings,
  • demolition of unsuitable structures,
  • construction of new blocks,
  • landscaping, creating a square, green zones, and parking.

According to the mayor, all projects aim at sustainable urban development, improving quality of life, and increasing accessibility to public spaces.
