64-year-old man detained in Larnaca with 60 firecrackers
A 64-year-old man from the Nicosia district was detained in Larnaca on April 9, 2026, for illegal possession of firecrackers, Cyprus Police representatives reported.
The Larnaca Crime Prevention Unit stopped a car for inspection on one of the district's roads. During the search, two packages containing a total of 60 firecrackers were discovered. The man was taken to the Oroklini police station, where he was questioned and charged in writing before being released pending a court summons. The confiscated firecrackers have been seized and remain as physical evidence.
Cyprus Police noted that they are on high alert ahead of Holy Week. This year's Holy Week campaign aims to counter the illegal trade and use of firecrackers, as well as to ensure road safety in Cyprus. Residents are advised to take note of police measures and comply with current regulations, as possession and use of prohibited pyrotechnic products carry liability, and seized items are used as evidence in further proceedings.
