Drunk bus driver arrested in Larnaca – students among passengers
In Larnaca, early in the morning, the traffic police stopped a public bus whose driver was under the influence of alcohol. The incident occurred at around 06:45 on the Avdellero–Athienou road. The driver was a 58-year-old man.
During the inspection, it was found that the bus carried 54 passengers, although the maximum permitted capacity was 50. Among them were schoolchildren, which caused particular concern for the police.
A breathalyzer test showed that the driver’s blood alcohol level was 63 micrograms, while the legal limit is only 9 micrograms.
The 58-year-old man was arrested, and criminal proceedings were initiated against him through an immediate procedure. During the day, he will be brought before the Larnaca District Court for the filing of official charges.
The investigation of the incident is being conducted by the Athienou police.
