A New Social Housing Complex Will Be Built On Agias Sofias Street In Limassol

The Municipality of Limassol presented the results of a series of consultation workshops on creating a new social housing structure in the city. The outcomes of these discussions will serve as the basis for designing a modern residential complex on Agias Sofias Street, which will be implemented by the municipal authorities.
The workshops were held under the title "New European Bauhaus: Co-Designing a Model Building and Public Space for All." The aim was to develop a model of affordable and inclusive housing that takes into account the real needs of different social groups.
More than 30 residents and over 15 specialists participated in the discussions. The work was carried out as part of the first phase of so-called "participatory design," where citizens, experts, and organization representatives jointly create realistic solutions with social impact.
The project provides for the construction of a complex of more than 2,500 sq. m on a municipal plot, allowing the creation of about 20 affordable housing units.
During the preparation, five social profiles were developed to reflect the needs of different groups:
- a young couple aged 27–28, facing difficulties due to high housing costs but seeking a comfortable living environment;
- a 38-year-old artist in need of creative space;
- a 30-year-old migrant seeking stability and acceptance;
- a 34-year-old single mother requiring a safe and supportive environment for her child;
- a 72-year-old retiree with limited mobility in need of accessibility and social support.
Based on the collected data, technical specifications will be prepared for an architectural competition for the affordable housing project. The municipality notes that the initiative will serve as a starting point for updating the city’s social housing policy.
