Suspect detained in Limassol over attempted nighttime break-in of residential building
Police in Limassol detained a 34-year-old man on suspicion of attempted break-in at a building and possession of tools for unlawful entry.
The incident occurred on the evening, at around 19:40, when an off-duty police officer spotted two men with their faces covered — wearing caps and medical masks. According to police, the men were behaving suspiciously and entered an apartment building in Limassol.
When the unknown men noticed the police officer, they tried to flee. During the escape, one of the men threw away a door handle, which, investigators believe, the offenders had ripped off while attempting to enter the building.
The police officer managed to detain one of the suspects. He turned out to be a 34-year-old man. A personal search revealed tools on him that, according to investigators, could have been used for breaking in.
The suspect was arrested at the scene on suspicion of committing criminal offences. The second man managed to escape, and police are continuing to search for him.
It is expected that today the detainee will appear before the Limassol District Court, where the question of his further remand in custody will be considered. The investigation is ongoing.
