Another Balcony Collapsed in Limassol
Early Friday morning in Limassol, another balcony of a multi-story building collapsed in Germasoyia. It has been just over a month since the previous similar incident.
According to local media reports, the collapse occurred shortly before dawn. Fortunately, thanks to this, there were no casualties or injuries. Pieces of the building's stone fell onto the municipal road leading to the beach, which is usually crowded with people during the day.
"Fortunately, we did not mourn any victims, as the collapsed balcony is adjacent to the pedestrian path leading to the beach, which is used daily by many citizens," wrote Christos Papamichael, a member of the local council of Germasoyia, on his social media page.
The statement emphasizes that the balcony collapse once again underscores the urgent need to take immediate and decisive measures to ensure the protection of the population, and most importantly, to implement legislative provisions for regular building inspections.
It is worth noting that there have been several incidents of balcony collapses in Cyprus recently. The latest such incident occurred on December 13 in Limassol, leading to mass inspections and calls from engineers and builders to develop legislation on regular building inspections.
