A major inspection of hair salons took place in Limassol: foreigners detained, fines totaling €26,800 issued
On Thursday, a coordinated operation by the police and government services was conducted in Limassol, aimed at inspecting hair salons and establishments operated by foreign nationals.
According to the Limassol Police Department, the raids took place from 16:00 to 22:00. The operation involved officers from the Limassol Police operational unit, as well as police units from Morfou and Paphos, along with representatives from the Labour Inspection Department and the Tax Department.
Inspections were carried out in 15 hair salons located on Anexartisias, Gladstonos, Franklin Roosevelt, Missiaouli, Kavazoglou, Omonia, Christodoulou Hadjipavlou, Georgiou A’, and Apostolou Varnava streets.
As a result of the inspections:
- 11 hair salons were closed;
- violations were found in 4 establishments — operating without a license and outside permitted hours;
- one violation was also recorded in a restaurant operating without the proper authorization.
During the operation:
- 3 foreigners were detained for illegal stay in the Republic of Cyprus;
- another 3 foreigners were arrested for illegal employment;
- 8 foreigners in four establishments were held accountable for undeclared work — total fines amounted to €26,800;
- The Tax Department issued fines to two establishments for not issuing receipts and lacking electronic payment terminals.
Additionally, 50 other foreign nationals were inspected, and no violations were found in their cases.
The Limassol Police stated that such inspections will be strengthened and continue in the near future.
