A 42-year-old businessman was shot near a hotel in Limassol; two suspects are being sought
The Limassol police are investigating an attempted murder of a 42-year-old Ukrainian businessman, who was shot in the abdomen near a coastal hotel in Limassol on Monday evening around 19:00. The victim was taken to Limassol General Hospital, underwent surgery, and is in stable condition with no life-threatening injuries.
According to the investigation, the conflict began at the hotel reception desk and escalated into a scuffle. Surveillance footage shows one of the participants taking a weapon from a bag and shooting the victim in the abdomen. A shell casing and other physical evidence were found at the scene and collected for examination.
The court has issued arrest warrants for two suspects, aged 44 and 39, of Russian and Greek origin; the 44-year-old also holds Cypriot documents and had previously attracted the attention of law enforcement. The luxury car used by the perpetrators was later found abandoned on the coastal road of Zygi.
The investigation suggests the suspects may have fled to Northern Cyprus; border checkpoints have been informed. Friends of the victim who brought him to the hospital have so far provided limited information; they are expected to give written statements. The police investigation continues.
