Limassol Taxi Drivers Go on Strike Today
Taxi drivers in Limassol have stopped work for four hours today as part of a protest organized by the Cyprus Urban Taxi Federation. According to the federation’s Board of Directors, the strike will last from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
The federation stressed that their goal is not to inconvenience the public but to highlight longstanding issues that have affected their profession for years.
They deliberately chose this specific time and location to ensure the strike does not disrupt students, workers, or airport passengers.
According to the federation, the decision to strike came after growing pressure from its members, who say they witness illegal taxi drivers operating freely in streets, squares, ports, and airports every day—taking their business and causing financial harm to the state, while authorities fail to take action.
Union members warned that if their demands—such as better enforcement, stricter oversight, and stronger measures against undeclared work—are not met, an emergency General Assembly will be held in three weeks to discuss more drastic actions across the country.
