Another Series of Attacks on Delivery Couriers in Limassol
On Monday evening, a new wave of attacks on food delivery couriers took place in Limassol, leaving two couriers injured at the hands of criminals.
According to the police, the first attack occurred around 7:00 PM in Ayios Ioannis, when a group of young individuals snatched a wallet from a scooter driver and fled the scene.
At almost the same time, another report came in about a robbery in Germasogeia. The victim, a delivery driver, stated that he was attacked by approximately six individuals on motorcycles and bicycles. The assailants stole his phone and money.
These incidents occurred just hours after the Human Rights Committee of the House of Representatives held a meeting to discuss the recent wave of courier robberies in Limassol.
Concerned groups have strongly urged the government to implement a national strategy to combat racism. However, Justice Minister Marios Haritsiotis dismissed this suggestion as unnecessary, pointing out that "a number of measures are already in place."
Since the beginning of the year, more than 20 attacks on couriers have been reported in Cyprus.
