Iranian community event to be held at the Presidential Palace in Nicosia

On Saturday from 15:00 to 17:00, a public event organized by representatives of the Iranian community in Cyprus will take place at the Presidential Palace in Nicosia. According to the organizers, the event will express solidarity with the victims of repression in Iran and commemorate those who have died.
It is expected to be one of the largest such events ever organized by the Iranian diaspora in Cyprus. Organizers note that the event is part of a broader international initiative supported by opposition figure Reza Pahlavi, aimed at drawing attention to the human rights situation in Iran.
The event takes place amid ongoing international concern following the protests that began in December 2025. Initially triggered by economic difficulties and currency devaluation, the demonstrations subsequently evolved into broader calls for freedom and justice. In response, authorities imposed serious restrictions, including temporary internet and communication blackouts across the country.
International human rights organizations reported mass arrests, legal prosecutions, and the use of excessive force against protesters. Iranian authorities, for their part, claim that the measures were aimed at maintaining public order and stability.
Organizers emphasize that the Nicosia event will be peaceful and intended to inform the public about the humanitarian situation and support for those affected. Everyone is invited to participate, including members of the media.
