Divers Remove Over a Ton of Trash from Paphos Seabed in One Hour
On Sunday, a group of 12 divers successfully removed 1.2 tons of trash from the seabed near the Kato Paphos castle in a large-scale cleanup operation.
The cleanup, held in Limanaki, was organized by the AKTI Project and Research Center, the Cyprus Ports Authority, and the port and marine police, in collaboration with the CYDIVE diving center and the Paphos Freediving Group.
The divers retrieved a variety of debris, including 200 metal cans, 50 glass bottles, 27 car tires, numerous pieces of scrap metal, and abandoned fishing nets known as "ghost nets," which continue to catch fish independently. They even found a chair among the discarded items.
