A Georgian woman with a fake Latvian passport was arrested in Paphos
In Paphos, a 32-year-old woman with a counterfeit Latvian identification document was arrested. The Georgian native was working under a fake passport at a resort hotel.
According to the police press service, law enforcement conducted an inspection at the hotel after receiving information that there might be people working there without the appropriate permission.
During questioning at the police station, the woman presented a photocopy of a Latvian identity document, which, according to the laws on freedom of movement applicable to all 27 EU member states, allowed her to work in Cyprus.
However, the police determined that the identity document was not genuine: in reality, the woman was from Georgia. Furthermore, they discovered that she had been deported from Cyprus before but had managed to return through the north.
The foreigner was arrested for impersonation, document forgery, and illegal employment, and remanded in custody.
