Two children hospitalized in Paphos after collision with driver who tested over alcohol limit
Two children sustained serious injuries and were hospitalized following a road traffic accident in Paphos on the evening of September 7, police reported. The crash occurred around 21:00 at the intersection of Spyros Kyprianou Avenue and Spyros Sotiriakis Street; a family car with four passengers collided with a vehicle driven by a 19-year-old male with a teenager in the passenger seat.
According to police, a 17-year-old boy suffered a neck injury and was taken to the Nicosia General Hospital, while a nine-year-old girl with a pelvic injury was taken to Archbishop Makarios III Hospital in Nicosia. Both children remain hospitalized in stable condition and are not in immediate danger.
The family car driver, a 40-year-old man, tested 23 micrograms of alcohol per 100 ml of breath — above the legal limit of 22 micrograms, police reported. A 40-year-old woman and two 19-year-old passengers of the second vehicle received first aid at Paphos General Hospital and were discharged. All five were evacuated from the scene by ambulances.
Police are investigating the circumstances of the collision. For residents of the island, this situation serves as a reminder of the risks of driving under the influence and the need to use alternative transport or responsible supervision, especially when children are being transported.
