In Paphos, a mother accused a teacher of abusing a six-year-old child
In Paphos, the mother of a six-year-old pupil filed a police complaint accusing a primary school teacher of physical abuse against her son. According to her, the incident occurred on January 15 at one of the city’s primary schools.
As the woman claims, what happened goes far beyond a “slap.” Relying entirely on the child’s account, she alleges that the teacher grabbed the boy by the arm, pushed him, and tripped him, causing the child to hit his face on a school desk.
As a result of the impact, the boy developed bruising under his eye as well as internal tears to the lips with bleeding. According to the mother, the teacher then lifted the child again by the arm, held him at the blackboard, and did not allow him to contact the school administration or wash away the blood.
The child managed to run out through the door into a neighboring classroom and ask for help. Shortly afterward, the school called the mother and informed her that her son had been injured and needed to be picked up urgently. The woman claims she was not told over the phone how serious the situation was, and the full extent became clear only upon her arrival at the school. She immediately informed the child’s father.
According to the mother, the same teacher allegedly used violence against another pupil as well. One of the children ran for help to a responsible teacher, who headed toward the classroom and met the injured boy on the way, helping him wash away the blood.
The cause of the conflict, it is claimed, was that the child stood up from his seat and moved to another desk.
The police have already taken testimony from the child, and the Ministry of Education has been informed. At the same time, according to the mother, the teacher continues to work at the school as usual, while her son remains at home, experiencing fear. The woman is demanding the teacher’s suspension so that her child can return to a normal school life.
A representative of the Ministry of Education — the primary education inspector for the Paphos district — confirmed that the complaint has indeed been filed and stated that an internal investigation has been launched. It was also confirmed that the parents have contacted the police.
