A Nature Trail in Avakas Gorge in Paphos Reopens for Visits
The nature trail in Avakas Gorge in Paphos is once again open for visits. In December, the road was closed due to heavy rains.
According to the forestry department, the trail passes through the gorge of the same name in the territory of the Peyia State Forest, and the end of the trail is inside the gorge itself.
The gorge was formed as a result of continuous erosional activity on the steep limestone cliffs. It follows the course of the Avakas River, from which it derives its name.
The gorge is also part of the Natura 2000 network - a network of protected areas within the European Union.
"Visitors are advised to take all necessary individual protective measures during their visit, such as appropriate clothing, footwear, and helmets," the department's message says.
