In Paralimni, plans are underway to create a new central square costing €5 million

The Paralimni Municipality has received urban planning permission to implement a large-scale project to redevelop the city’s central square. The permit was presented to the mayor by the President of the Famagusta District Self-Government Organisation, Yiannis Karousos. The municipality now expects state funding to include the project in the official list of urban programs and begin construction.
The project cost is estimated at approximately €5 million. The new square is envisioned as a landmark public space with an events area, a park, memorial elements, and extensive landscaping. The architectural concept предусматривает the creation of a unified urban landmark that will highlight the three historic churches located nearby. A water feature will also appear in the center of the square, symbolically linking it to the local lake and the sea.
According to the plan, the renovated square will be able to accommodate up to 3,500 people at the same time. The municipality emphasizes that special attention has been paid to universal accessibility: the space will be designed so that all residents and visitors can move freely and comfortably throughout the entire area.
The central square project is part of a broader plan to revitalize the center of Paralimni. The second major element is a €8 million renovation program for the city’s historic core, including pedestrian zones and the creation of small public squares. The third project is a multi-level parking facility near the town hall, which is already under construction and will cost €6.7 million.
The municipality notes that all three projects together form a comprehensive “European-level” urban transformation that should improve residents’ quality of life, enhance the experience of tourists, and become a long-term symbol of Paralimni.
