A heron tangled in ropes was rescued in Atalassa Park

On Saturday, November 8, in the National Forest Park Atalassa, passers-by noticed a heron trapped near the South Lake. The bird was sitting on the top of a dry eucalyptus tree, and its legs were entangled in ropes or threads, presumably left by someone in the water.
The incident was reported to the Department of Forests, after which a team of specialists arrived on site. To safely rescue the bird, it was decided to cut down the tree. The heron was freed without injury, but it was severely weakened and dehydrated.
After receiving first aid, the bird was taken to the infirmary of the Game and Fauna Service, where veterinarians will conduct tests and monitor its recovery. After rehabilitation, the heron is planned to be released back into the wild.
