In the suburb of Nicosia, the Christmas tree was set on fire
Unknown vandals set fire to the Christmas tree in the municipality of Lakatamia, a suburb of Nicosia. Authorities are taking measures for the immediate replacement of the burnt tree.
It is reported that the incident occurred on the night of December 13 at the intersection of Yannu Kranidiotis and Pefkos streets, where the main symbol of the New Year was installed.
The Christmas decoration, crafted in the workshops of the Lakatamia municipality, was completely destroyed by the fire. According to preliminary information, the arson was intentionally carried out by a group of teenagers.
Municipality authorities note that the Christmas tree was placed in this location as part of the "non-central streets" decoration program, allowing all citizens to enjoy the festive atmosphere.
A complaint about the destruction of the Christmas tree has been filed with the police.
