First Day of School Across Cyprus
On Friday, September 6, the first school bell rang, marking the start of the new academic year for secondary and general education schools across Cyprus. A total of 42,650 students are returning to classrooms today.
Out of these, 24,989 students are enrolled in secondary schools, while 17,661 will be attending gymnasiums. Additionally, 18 students are set to attend the six-year gymnasium-lyceum in Rizokarpaso (Dipkarpaz), located in the northern part of the island.
For the 2024-2025 school year, Cyprus will operate 108 public secondary education schools, including 62 secondary schools, 36 gymnasiums, and 10 six-year schools that offer both middle and senior-level education, with the Rizokarpaso secondary school among them.
There will also be 5 evening secondary schools in operation. Each province will feature one specialized music school and one sports academy for students.
This year, the total number of teachers in secondary education will reach 7,031.
It’s also worth noting that, to mark the start of the new school year, President Nikos Christodoulides, along with the Minister of Education, Sports, and Youth, Athina Michaelidou, visited the 3rd Technical and Vocational School in Archangelos at 8:00 a.m.
