Meningitis Case Reported at Limassol Secondary School
A case of meningitis has been confirmed in a student at a secondary school in Limassol. In response, medical services have been placed on high alert.
The illness was diagnosed in a student who is now receiving treatment at a private hospital, according to available reports.
In an interview with AlphaNews.Live, Elizabeth Constantinou, director of the medical services, confirmed that all necessary precautions were taken in line with established protocols once the infection was identified.
Preventive medications have been provided to everyone who had close contact with the student, including classmates, school staff, and family members.
The student’s contacts are being closely monitored, and medical support is being provided as needed.
Anyone who had contact with the affected student in the days prior to the onset of symptoms has been given special preventive treatment.
The school is continuing to operate as normal, with no risk to students or staff. Parents have been encouraged to ensure their children’s vaccinations are up to date.
It is also worth noting that approximately two cases of meningitis are reported annually in Cyprus, with viral meningitis being more common. In many cases, there may be several dozen such incidents each year.
