Suspicious prisoner transfers under investigation in prisons

A new internal investigation has begun in Cypriot prisons following a statement by a female inmate who claims that she was repeatedly taken out of the women’s wing and left for long periods in a separate office — including late at night.
TAE investigators are already examining duty logs, movement records and internal documentation. According to the investigation, the hours of the woman’s absence are indeed reflected in the logs. Testimonies are being collected from staff who may have been aware of the violations of the regime.
The inmate also stated that during the court process she was taken outside the prison to participate in events — a practice that is completely prohibited for unconvicted prisoners because of the risk of escape.
After giving testimony, she was included in a witness protection program and released on security grounds.
Former Director of Prisons Anna Aristotelous, through her lawyer, rejected all allegations. The investigation continues.
