31 people rescued in Avakas Gorge after being trapped by rising waters

The Fire Service conducted a rescue operation on Wednesday in the Avakas Gorge in the Paphos district, where tourists became trapped due to a sudden rise in water levels.

The first distress call was received at 13:13. Rescuers from the Peyia fire station evacuated 26 people using ropes and life jackets. All were successfully brought to safety and were unharmed.

Later, at 16:20, another report came in regarding five people trapped in the same gorge. Three were pulled from the water, and two others were rescued from another part of the gorge.

In total, rescuers evacuated 31 people; all are safe.
