Main roads to Troodos partially closed again due to freezing temperatures
Due to freezing temperatures in Cyprus, main roads to Troodos have been partially closed again. Most roads are icy and open only to off-road vehicles.
This concerns the Carvounas - Troodos, Platres - Troodos, and Prodromos - Troodos roads. Due to the cold, these routes are only open to vehicles with all-wheel drive or equipped with anti-skid chains.
The roads Orkoda - Kikkos, Kakopetria - Pine Forest - Pedoulas, Pedoulas - Prodromos, Prodromos - Platres, and Prodromos - Lemithos are open, but passage on them is unsafe due to black ice.
Police urge drivers traveling in mountainous areas to be especially cautious, as the roads are slippery due to the prevailing weather conditions.
Recall that roads leading to Troodos were partially or completely closed to traffic with the arrival of the powerful cyclone "Avgi," which brought heavy snowfalls to Cyprus. On Thursday, the roads were partially reopened, but restrictions were reintroduced by Friday morning. It is worth noting that the ski season in the mountains of Cyprus opened the day before.
