Drivers in Cyprus must now take photos and exchange details before removing vehicles after minor accidents
On July 10, the Cyprus Parliament passed a law requiring drivers involved in minor road accidents to first take photos and exchange details, then move their vehicles off the road. The bill was introduced by DISY MP Demetris Demetriou. The goal is to reduce traffic congestion caused by minor accidents. Previously, even in cases of light damage, drivers waited for insurance agents, blocking the road.
Now, in the event of a minor accident, drivers must:
- take photos of the damage, vehicle positions, and the scene;
- exchange driver’s licenses and vehicle documentation details;
- remove the vehicles from the roadway;
- complete the European Accident Statement (on paper or electronically).
MPs noted that such incidents occur daily and that the new process will minimize their impact on traffic.
