Military personnel to be provided with insurance coverage

On Thursday, Parliament approved a law providing insurance coverage for military personnel in the event of death or total permanent disability while performing official duties.
Under the adopted legislation, the insurance payment amounts to €115,000. In the case of a soldier’s death, the sum will be distributed equally among their legal heirs. In the case of total permanent disability, the payment is made to the affected individual.
It is noted that the decision regarding the right to receive insurance compensation will be made by a special medical commission. Insurance payments received are exempt from taxation.
The law also stipulates that if the affected individual or the family of a deceased soldier applies to the court for additional compensation, the court will take into account the insurance amount already paid and deduct it from the possible compensation.
The amount of insurance coverage was established by the Council of Ministers in June 2025 and now has legislative confirmation.
The adoption of the law is seen as a step toward strengthening the social protection of military personnel and their families, as well as acknowledging the risks associated with military service.
