Doctors of Cyprus State Hospitals Announce Date for Mass Strike
Doctors from the state hospitals of the Republic of Cyprus have declared a 24-hour strike, set for June 20. If medical staff are not compensated for their overtime hours, protest actions will intensify on July 2 and 3.
In a joint press release, representatives of the medical sector from two unions stated that negotiations with representatives of the state health service, OKYPY, have reached a deadlock.
"Unfortunately, discussions have reached an impasse, and the exclusive responsibility lies with the employer," the union statements said.
In response, medical workers have decided to hold a 24-hour warning strike on June 20, 2024. All doctors from state hospitals will participate, with the possibility of further escalation on July 2 and 3 if their demands are not met.
The unions have assured that patients will not be harmed during the protest action. Medical institution personnel will be fully staffed to ensure their safety.
