Doctors Provide Update on National Guard Soldiers with Heatstroke: One Diagnosed with Coronavirus
Details have emerged about the health of two National Guard soldiers who suffered heatstroke while serving in Cyprus. Both are on the road to recovery, but one has also been diagnosed with coronavirus.
Last week, two National Guard soldiers were hospitalized in critical condition: one is currently receiving treatment in France, and the other is at the General Hospital of Nicosia.
On Monday morning, Andreas Stylianou, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Defense, reported on State Radio that the condition of the 17-year-old soldier being treated in France is gradually improving. Full recovery may take several more days. However, doctors have observed positive progress – the young man is responding to those around him and has begun answering questions.
The second soldier, an 18-year-old who is being treated at the General Hospital of Nicosia, has experienced a worsening of his condition. He has fainted, and in addition to heatstroke, he has been diagnosed with coronavirus.
The young man has been extubated and is conscious. Doctors state that once he tests negative for coronavirus, he will be moved from the intensive care unit to a regular ward.
