Currently, less than 50% of car owners in Cyprus have replaced faulty Takata airbags. Meanwhile, there are less than 100 days left until the deadline set by the government for the replacement.

Authorities urge owners of recalled vehicles to urgently book appointments with their dealers. The list of vehicles subject to recall can be studied on the official page.

“Since February last year until today, dealer centers have managed to replace faulty airbags in only 45% of vehicles on this list. Authorities note that the process is going satisfactorily, but it is not enough for citizen safety,” said the Department of Motor Vehicles.

“Out of 81,060 vehicles subject to recall due to problematic Takata airbags, 45,734 cars are still awaiting replacement,” stated George Lucas.

Meanwhile, chaos has reigned for several days at French automotive enterprises: the government is recalling tens of thousands of cars following the death of a 37-year-old woman. She died because of a faulty airbag, becoming the 18th victim in France on the tragic Takata list.

More than 800,000 vehicles are expected to be recalled soon. If this number is added to cars recalled previously, the total will exceed one million.
