Police have arrested a suspect in connection with an arson attack targeting a car dealership in the centre of Limassol.

According to police, the suspect was arrested yesterday on the basis of a court warrant after investigators gathered evidence linking him to the case. Officers carried out searches of both the suspect’s vehicle and residence, seizing items that will be sent for forensic examination.

The incident occurred at around 4:15am on Sunday, 25 January, when a fire broke out inside the enclosed showroom of a car dealership owned by a 37-year-old man. The Fire Service was called to the scene and managed to extinguish the blaze.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the fire was deliberately set. Police said an unknown individual smashed the glass frontage of the showroom, poured flammable material inside and then set it on fire, causing extensive damage.

As a result of the blaze, two luxury vehicles, valued at approximately €120,000 and €60,000, were completely destroyed, while significant damage was also caused to the premises.

The Limassol Criminal Investigation Department continues to investigate the case.
