Every year in the second half of November, the traditional Christmas market opens in the village of Kalopanayiotis — one of the most popular winter events in the Troodos mountain region.

The village of Kalopanayiotis is located in the Marathasa valley, in the picturesque Troodos mountains. Location.

Kalopanayiotis is considered one of the most beautiful and well-maintained mountain resorts in Cyprus. Its highlights include thermal springs, traditional stone architecture, narrow cobbled streets, cozy houses, and stunning panoramic views of the valley.

The famous Monastery of Agios Ioannis Lampadistis, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is located here. The complex consists of three Byzantine churches decorated with magnificent frescoes from the 9th–15th centuries. It is one of the most important spiritual and cultural sites in Cyprus.

Other attractions in the area include a Venetian bridge, the Kikksos watermill — a rare example of pre-industrial architecture, and the old quarter with museums, chapels, and traditional houses.

Kalopanayiotis is ideal for agro-tourism. Several popular nature trails start here, including one of the best on the island, which passes through valleys, forests, and along rivers. The mild climate makes walking enjoyable all year round.

The Christmas market operates from 22 November 2025 to 22 December on Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays.

From 23 December 2025 to 6 January 2026, the market is open daily.
