Traditional Cypriot village Kyperounta

Located in the Troodos mountains in the Pitsilia region of Limassol district, Kyperounta village is about 1,300 meters above sea level.

This leafy village is the third highest on the island and retains its traditional character and active population. Its distinctive features — uphill roads, vineyards, small courtyards, houses with tiled roofs, and picturesque attics — give it natural charm. It is famous for its apples, wine, and traditional cured meats. All of this contributes to the village’s charming character.

Kyperounta was founded in Byzantine times and got its name from the local weed "kypros" or "kyperi," which grows abundantly in the area. The special microclimate of the area prompted the British in the 1930s to build a sanatorium for tuberculosis patients, which today serves as the Troodos hospital.

Village attractions include the Church of Agia Marina from the 18th century, the new majestic church of Agios Arsenios, the ancient church of Timios Stavros with unique frescoes which also serves as an iconostasis, and three museums — Natural History, Folk Art, and the National Liberation Struggle.

Other points of interest include Kyperounta winery and the mountain adventure park, as well as two beautiful nature trails: "Doksa soi o Teos" and "Teisia tis Madaris." There is a hotel and accommodation options for agrotourism enthusiasts.
