Arıklı: Some companies are obstructing the "Evden Eve Fiber" project to retain privileges
Minister of Construction and Transport Erhan Arıklı stated on social media that a group seeking to maintain previous economic advantages opposes the project of connecting homes to fiber optics, "Evden Eve Fiber." According to him, the project is being implemented by Türk Telekom under the supervision of the Information Technologies and Communication Authority (BTHK), initially operating jointly with the Telephone Service and later fully transferring to the Telephone Service administration.
Arıklı reminded that Türk Telekom has already laid two fiber-optic lines in the TRNC and has an unpaid amount of 45 million dollars, but has not yet submitted any claims. The financial aspect of the project is supervised by the Ministry of Finance and the Central Bank, while the technical and administrative aspects are overseen by the ministry, BTHK, and the Telephone Service. The work is not yet complete, so details have not been published.
The minister noted that the union complains about the lack of information, while part of the business community supports the protests. In his assessment, some companies fear losing privileges: they receive services at low cost from the Telephone Service and then sell them to the public at a higher rate. The cooperation protocol with Telekom is being discussed; once negotiations are completed, the details will be made public. For residents, this may mean possible changes in providers and internet prices in the future, but current services remain in effect.
