Internet Service Providers Association Voices Reservations Over Türk Telekom Protocol
The Internet Service Providers Association (İnternet Servis Sağlayıcıları Birliği) has issued a statement expressing reservations regarding the proposed protocol for transitioning to fiber-optic infrastructure, planned to be implemented with the participation of Türk Telekom.
The official statement notes that discussions involve the Ministry of Transport, the telecommunications regulator, Türk Telekom representatives, the Tel-Sen union, the Telecommunications Department, the Chamber of Computer Engineers, and the Internet Service Providers Association.
The Association emphasized that the fact that negotiations are taking place does not imply that an agreement has been reached.
Their position states that:
- The document is not in its final version;
- Legally authorized bodies must provide official approval;
- Further adjustments may be made following legal and technical assessments;
- Negotiations are ongoing.
The statement specifically highlighted that the protocol spans a 25-year period, making it a long-term and binding commitment.
While the Association supports the development of fiber-optic infrastructure, it insists that the process must fully comply with:
- Constitutional norms;
- Existing legislation;
- Principles of competition law;
- The technical and operational realities of the sector.
The organization believes that such a long-term agreement must be built on a "solid, balanced, and sustainable foundation."
